External work is the least forgiving part of the trade. It happens in weather, in ground you cannot fully survey, alongside a utility whose outage window is not negotiable. Everything after it depends on getting the feed in correctly the first time — which is why we sequence external networks around the utility calendar and the ground conditions, not around the site programme we would prefer.
Scope
- Underground supply routes — trenching, ducting, bedding, warning tape and reinstatement
- Site distribution — feeder pillars, distribution boards and sub-main routing across a site
- Substation and metering connections coordinated with the distribution network operator
- Public and site lighting — columns, foundations, feeds, control gear and photocell or timer control
- Earthing and lightning protection — electrodes, bonding and measured earth resistance

- Trench and duct as-built with depths and cover records
- Earth resistance measurements at every electrode
- Feeder and distribution schedules with protection coordination
- Utility connection documentation and witnessed test records
- Reinstatement photographs and route markers
